Donda’s House, a nonprofit created to honor Kanye West’s mother, purchased the rapper’s childhood home at 7815 S. South Shore Drive last year, according to DNAinfo. The house is in such a state of disrepair that it needs to be torn down, but the nonprofit still envisions bringing an arts center to the South Shore site.

The home is 1,600 square feet, but the planned arts center could be up to 4,000 square feet, according to the report. The center aims to provide music and art programs for the community’s children and adults.

Donda’s House plans to start a round of fundraising with a $1 million goal in mind. The funds will be used to knock down the old house and begin building the arts center, DNAinfo reports.

West’s musical collaborator Che “Rhymefest” Smith is helping the nonprofit move forward with the project.
