The Oakland Athletics baseball franchise has announced that the MLB team is moving its headquarters to Jack London Square. The headquarters will occupy 40,000 square feet of office space near downtown Oakland.

The news comes shortly after the team’s recent announcement that it has selected a plot near Laney College as the site of their new ballpark. The A’s have played at the Oakland Coliseum for 50 years and their current offices are located at the Coliseum and Oracle Arena.

According to a CBS SF Bay Area report, one of the benefits of moving the team’s headquarters to Jack London Square is its proximity to Laney College. The square also provides a mixed-use environment featuring a plethora of dining, retail, and entertainment options. The move is in keeping with the A’s vision of bringing the community together — the same cause that contributed to the plan to build a new ballpark there.

Meanwhile, the team is working on a plan to redevelop the Coliseum into a youth sports academy once they leave, creating jobs for the city and gaining a pipeline of new talent for their team.
