If you’re in Orange County, you are in the prime territory of skate culture. Orange County is home to several skate and extreme sport headquarters including Vans, Volcom, and Etnies. Unsurprisingly, each of these has named skate parks locally honoring their favorite pastime. But they’re not the only ones in town. Etnies Skate Park - Lake Forest

Etnies Skate Park is the largest skatepark in Lake Forest, California. It’s 40,000 square feet, which is nearly four times larger than the other skate parks around the area. It offers monthly events including skate camps and movie viewings throughout the year. The park is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and doesn’t allow scooters or BMX bikes. Etnies is free for Lake Forest residents and offers a paid membership option for non-residents. An additional waiver is needed in order to skate in the park. 

Spectators are not allowed inside the park itself but are welcome outside the gates. With that said, you can film or photograph with the purchase of a photo pass from the offices located at the skate park. If you’re curious to see how it looks, you can tune in to their live webcam to get a real-time tour from your own computer.

Vans Skate Park - Orange

Vans Skate Park in Orange features indoor and outdoor courses. It’s free for skateboarders as well as BMX riders. BMX days are held on Thursdays and Sundays in the evening hours. The age limits are the same as their other park in Huntington Beach with the entrance level starting at the age of six. This skate park offers equipment rentals, private lessons with Vans-certified instructors, and the option to rent out the space for birthday parties.

Volcom Skate Park - Costa Mesa

Volcom Skate Park in Costa Mesa is an outdoor skate park that is unsupervised and open to the public. It’s open during the day throughout week but closed for maintenance on Tuesdays until 3 p.m. The park doesn’t allow scooters or bikes, but inline and quad-style roller skates are welcomed. Volcom Skate Park has plenty of seating areas including benches and bleachers where spectators can watch skaters perform their best flips and tricks.

Harvard Skate Park- Irvine

Harvard Skate Park in Irvine is a public, unsupervised skate park that’s open to all ages and doesn’t require any waivers. This park covers the basics with 10,000 square feet of skating surface, a spine, a bowl, and lights for skating at night. Although the primary use of the park is for skateboarding, people are also allowed to use their inline or quad roller skates.

Anaheim West Skate Park - Anaheim

Anaheim West Skate Park in Anaheim is a public outdoor skate park open from dawn until dusk. Its layout is designed for skateboarding but it’s also ideal for those who prefer to roller skate. It’s open to all ages and no waivers are required, so you’ll have to skate at your own risk. There are also no lights for nighttime skating, so it’s best to visit the park during the daytime.

Ponderosa Skate Park- Anaheim

Ponderosa Skate Park is a public outdoor skate park that offers a small but well-designed space with a bowl, flatbars, hips, ledges, quarters, and more. It’s destined for skateboards as well as roller skates of the inline and quad variety. It’s open to all ages and no waivers are required.

Vans Off the Wall Skate Park - Huntington Beach

This Vans Skate Park in Huntington Beach, Off the Wall, is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. all week long. Wednesdays are dedicated to BMX riders except the back bowl area, which is reserved for skateboarding only. A signed waiver is required to skate here and the age requirement is 6+. Riders under the age of 18 must wear protective gear at all times, and riders over the age of 18 can opt to only wear a helmet. Photography is not allowed in the park unless it has been approved by the Vans Park staff.

Laguna Niguel Skateboard & Soccer Park - Laguna Niguel

The Laguna Niguel Skateboard & Soccer Park is a public outdoor skate park that’s open from noon to 9:30 p.m. during the school year and open to all ages. It’s a skatepark for skateboarders as well as inline and quad roller skaters. BMX bikes are allowed only on select days and times, which are on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Scooters are not allowed and waivers are required to skate here. Residents and non-residents must pay a fee to skate in this park. Visitors can pay $10 for a one-day pass or pay an annual fee of $40 if they are Laguna Niguel residents or $80 for non-residents.
