Oro Valley Town Council unanimously approved several General Plan amendments and rezoning requests that will affect the expansion of future developments in the town north of Tucson, according to Tucson Local Media.

The first decision was made regarding 131 acres of undeveloped land at Tangerine Road and North Rancho Vistas Boulevard, east of the Rancho Vistoso neighborhood. The zone change allows the space to be reconfigured for two residential developments with 408 two-story homes on 6,000 square feet lots.

The second decision allows an additional 302 acres of undeveloped State Trust Land to be included in the General Plan and begins the process of possible annexation. The area at West Tangerine Road and North Coyote Crossing Trail is nestled between Oro Valley and Marana.

The third decision regarded the residential rezoning of a 76-acre property just south of The Estates at Capella neighborhood. The land had previously been denied rezoning twice due to being located in a FEMA floodplain containing critical washes. According to town documents, the tentative plans show a development with 80 lots. Many in the town opposed this amendment due to the mass grading of washes, most specifically Big Wash and Honey Bee Wash, but plans seem to be moving forward on the development.
