Pioneering Capital Bar in Fort Worth's West 7th Area to Close
The popular West 7th area of Downtown Fort Worth has been one of the most exciting neighborhoods in the city for nearly a decade. And now, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the pioneering Capital Bar on West 7th is about to close.
The Capital Bar originally opened in 2009 and was one of the first destinations in West 7th. At the time it opened, the Lofts on West 7th were still under construction. Fred’s Texas Cafe was the only place to go.
Over the years, the Capital Bar — better known by locals as just “Capital” — has played host to numerous musical acts. It became the venue for performances sponsored by radio station 95.9 The Ranch, which featured many artists in the Texas Country genre. Artists who played at Capital included Robert Earl Keen, Charlie Robison, Candlebox, and Gary P. Nunn.
The Capital Bar recently closed its doors for good on Nov. 6, after going out with one last blowout party on Saturday the 5th and the usual songwriters’ showcase on Sunday night.
Even though the Capital Bar is now closed, the owners say to watch the space for a new concept opening under different ownership in the future.
In the absence of Capital, a dozen bars have opened along West 7th, many with rooftop patios, swimming pools, and mechanical bulls. A location of the Coyote Ugly chain of bars also recently opened for business in the area.
The West 7th business district is now a pedestrian-friendly zone that encompasses more than five blocks and includes a variety of trendy restaurants, specialty boutiques, bars, and nightclubs.
