The personal finance site WalletHub recently released its "Best and Worst Places to Raise a Family” rankings, and Plano is No. 3 on the list.

The list includes 150 cities and Plano is preceded only by Overland Park, Kansas, and Madison, Wisconsin.

According to WalletHub, the average American will move approximately 11.4 times during his or her lifetime, Consequently, families tend to move often. Whether assuming a better job opportunity, buying a bigger house, living closer to aging parents, or downsizing after one of life’s setbacks, reasons to relocate can vary significantly. In all cases, however, WalletHub advocates “choosing an area that’s conducive to economic prosperity and the overall pursuit of happiness.”

Based on 41 metrics, WalletHub analysts measured and compared the essential family dynamics of the 150 most populated cities in the U.S. Though the in-depth metrics measured everything from walkability to air quality, a snapshot of major factors families seek when selecting a new community include cost of living and housing, local school quality, available health care systems, and accessibility to fun and recreational opportunities.
