Plans for South LA Bike Share and Pedestrian Path Take Shape
LA Metro has released new designs for a bike share and pedestrian path called Rail-to-River, which will connect the transit company’s Crenshaw, Silver, and Blue lines to the Los Angeles River. The South LA project calls for the reconstruction of underused train tracks, which stretch 6.4 miles starting from the Crenshaw Line’s anticipated Fairview Heights station to the Blue Line’s Slauson station.

Designs show the future bike share and walking path near Slauson station would feature two-way bike lanes and a separate lane for pedestrians. There are also plans for new light fixtures, trees, benches, and even bioswales to remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water.
Similarly, the section near the future Fairview Heights station would be redeveloped to include a bioswale dividing the bike and walking lanes, as well as security camera and emergency telephone installations spread throughout the path.
Construction for the project won’t start until mid-2018 with plans to complete in 2019. The Metro’s Crenshaw Line is expected to open next year.
