PorchFest to Coincide with Buckner Park Grand Re-Opening
PorchFest is a block party that takes place in several cities, bringing neighbors together to raise money for the community. Old East Dallas is hosting its second annual PorchFest event Oct. 7. According to a recent story in Candy’s Dirt, PorchFest will coincide with the grand re-opening of Buckner Park.
Details about the event point out that it will take place in historic Peak’s Addition, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods that is bordered by Live Oak, Peak, Worth, and N. Fitzhugh street. Ribbon-cutting for the grand re-opening of Buckner Park will occur at noon at 4550 Worth St. The revitalization of Buckner Park was a $3 million project financed by the city.
Although PorchFest is a celebration for the Peaks Addition neighborhood, the entire city is invited. Local artists will sell crafts, jewelry, and art, and vendors will offer a variety of food, beer, and wine. Musicians will play on the expansive porches characteristic of many homes in the Old East Dallas neighborhood.
Last year’s Dallas PorchFest event was attended by 600 people, who raised enough money to plant 50 trees and repair more than 1,500 feet of sidewalks. The event will take place from noon to 8 p.m. at 4600 Worth St. and Buckner Park.
