The owner of the Sears store at the Westfield Broward Mall in Plantation is planning to redevelop the store in order to accommodate multiple tenants, per CRE Sources.

As part of its acquisition of real estate from Sears and Kmart stores across the country, New York-based Seritage Growth Properties acquired the 17.8-acre site at 8000 W. Broward Blvd. The current Sears building has about 208,000 square feet. Under redevelopment plans, to be discussed by the city’s Review Committee this week, the building would be reduced to 87,194 square feet. Sears would occupy half of the building with the remaining space leased to entertainment tenants.

The plans also call for building 102,353 square feet of new retail and restaurant space to replace the Sears auto service area currently located on the property. Parking spaces would be reduced from 1,155 to 1,071.

As Sears and Kmart close or shrink stores, Seritage Growth Properties has been seeking to redevelop those properties. In fact, the developer also has plans to redevelop the Sears property at the Aventura Mall and reposition a North Miami Beach shopping center where a Kmart closed.
