Curbed LA recently revealed new renderings for the reimagined Promenade at Howard Hughes Center, which will be rebranded as HHLA. The updated look is geared toward creating a more upscale aesthetic and attracting visitors from the nearby Interstate 405 freeway, according to one spokesperson from developer Laurus Corporation.

HHLA’s $30 million facelift was announced back in January 2017, and will be completed in the first half of 2018. With an influx of tech companies in Westchester and Playa Vista changing the profile of consumers that live and work near the shopping center, the update keeps up with shifting demographics.

As the renderings reveal, the facade of HHLA will become much more modern and open, with a clearer view of the shopping center’s key tenants from afar. A central courtyard area aims to tie the entire structure together in the new design, creating a communal area for the mall, which currently segments itself between levels and narrow corridors.

In speaking with the Laurus spokesperson, Curbed reveals that about half of the tenants will turn over with the update, though there has been no mention of which will depart come 2018 (or which storefronts could replace those tenants). The only specific mention of carryover was for some of the complex’s major tenants such as Starbucks, Dave & Buster’s, and Cinemark.
