Head out along the southern edge of San Bernardino County in the Morongo Basin and you’re bound to stumble into Pioneertown. Originally created as an Old West movie set, complete with 1880s-style “false-front” facades, dozens of motion pictures were filmed here in the 40s and 50s. Roy Rogers and Dick Curtis were among the original developers and investors while Gene Autry frequently taped episodes of “The Gene Autry Show” here.

The Streets of Pioneertown

As the years passed and the industry changed, Pioneertown became an actual town, albeit a sparsely populated one (around 350 people call it home). If you’re interested in making it 351 or 352, there’s a 150-square-foot tiny home located at 0 Saddle Lane that might just be the perfect place to kick up your spurs.

It’s not big, and it doesn’t include a bathroom, and it’ll cost you $120,000 ($800/square foot), but hey, you’re paying for the experience here, aren’t you?

At first glance, you might think this place is just an oversized shed, and perhaps it once was. Nowadays, however, it’s been fixed up to feature a lounge room beneath a sleeping loft. There’s also a covered porch out front if you feel a little cramped.

Running water will be a bit of an issue at first. Not only does it not come with a bathroom, or a kitchen, but you’d also be responsible for installing your own well. The property does come with a solar energy system, however, so consider that a bit of a trade-off.

Because there’s no point in living in a place called Pioneertown without some livestock, the 2.65 acre property also comes with a corral. We suggest tiny horses, if only to keep with the motif.
