Sacramento Startups Could Soon Call Stacked Shipping Containers Home
Oak Park in Sacramento’s Tahoe Park neighborhood could be the site of a very futuristic concept — savvy offices and shopfronts in shipping containers.
Per The Sacramento Bee, architect Ron Vrilakas is proposing a “mini startup campus” on the empty lot across the Broadway Triangle retail and housing development he constructed after realizing the demand for small spaces with uncomplicated lease terms for local startup entrepreneurs.
Hoping to create an aesthetic that adds to “the spirit of the district (Oak Park),” Vriilakas will use up to 30 linear shaped containers. Each one measures 160 square feet, though some could be merged to create needed space.
The project loosely titled “Triangle Work Space Development” will also offer an outdoor gathering space for tenants and will join the ranks of many other office and retail sites geared toward neighborhood enhancements in recent years.
Per ABC 10, property owners and neighbors around the site are supportive of his design as are the Oak Park Business Association, and council member Jay Schenirer.
