WalletHub recently released their list of the nation’s best cities for veterans. Yes, affordability is important, but so is the healthcare system and the areas providing jobs with military skills. Arizona — which is home to a large community of veterans, and expects continued growth of veterans in the foreseeable future — has three cities that made the grade.

To find which cities are the best places for military veterans, WalletHub compared metrics across the nation’s 100 highest populated cities. They analyzed indicators in the areas of employment, economy, livability, quality of life, and health, grading each one with a score up to 100 points.

Scottsdale led the way for Arizona with a total of 62.98 points, good for 12th place overall. The city’s leading factor was the quality of life, of which is ranked third overall. The family- and retiree-friendly city offers a multitude of housing opportunities. There are also dozens of communities built around golf courses with outdoor amenities, like Gainey Ranch, which offers everything from patio homes, condos, and estate homes next to the Gainey Ranch Golf Club.

Gilbert shows up in 19th place overall with 61.33 overall points while Chandler is ranked 22nd with 60.67 points. Both cities scored high in economic categories, such as veteran income, educational opportunities, and housing affordability. Chandler also scored third for the lowest city with the percentage of veterans in poverty. Vets might want to look to The Villages in Gilbert, which offers homes in the mid $100,000s, while Chandler’s Ocotillo offers a mixture of home styles that start in the low $200,000s.
