Following wind tunnel tests and updated plans that now include a free-fall ride, developer Jeff Berkowitz says construction will begin on his ambitious downtown Miami skyscraper, SkyRise Miami, in spring 2018, according to Curbed Miami.

The vertical amusement park — standing at 1,000 feet — has been in various planning stages since 2013 when Berkowitz’s namesake firm, Berkowitz Development Group, announced the project. Once completed, it will be among the tallest buildings in Miami; it also will house SkyPlunge, the longest bungee-cord jump in the world, per the Miami Herald. Rotating pods and an observation tower at the top will offer prime views of the city and sea.

SkyDrop, a free-fall ride, is a new addition to the space and will mimic a base-jumping experience, according to SkyRise Miami’s Facebook page. Jumpers are attached to a controlled descent wire, then descend at speeds of about 55 miles per hour through the interior of the tower.

While the Herald describes the building’s remarkable shape as a “hairpin,” architecture firm Arquitectonica likens its structure to a giant wave or jumping billfish.
