Another tradition follows the craze of Thanksgiving eating and Black Friday shopping: Small Business Saturday. On November 25, shoppers are invited to skip the big chain stores and discover what their small, local businesses have to offer. This year, forget about the Magnificent Mile and find something truly unique. Here are six of Chicago’s best small business shopping corridors.

26th Street - Little Village

One of the highest-grossing shopping districts in the city is in the small neighborhood of Little Village. The stretch of 26th Street that runs from Kedzie Avenue to Kostner Avenue is a bustling shopping corridor. You will find more than 500 local businesses operating in this small corridor dubbed the “Mexican Magnificent Mile” by the Chicago Reader. Stop at one of the many street vendors for fresh elote while you wander between small bakeries, restaurants, and shops. Stop at the Village Discount Outlet for some amazing thrift store finds.

Armitage Avenue - Lincoln Park / Logan Square

Armitage Avenue between Old Town and Lincoln Park is chock full of boutiques and independent shops. Sure, you can still find the occasional Starbucks in this trendy area, but there are still plenty of unique shopping opportunities here. Find vintage clothing for women and locally made art at TUSK closer to Logan Square. Find tons of holiday gifts at Art Effect. For something a little different, duck into Old Town Music Store, a nonprofit dedicated to all things musical instruments.

Clark Street - Andersonville

Andersonville is a hotspot for small businesses. Nearly all of the stores in the neighborhood are independent and locally run. There are few better places to spend Small Business Saturday than one of the neighborhood’s busiest strips: Clark Street. Find something absolutely unique at Milk Handmade, or go furniture shopping at Room Service Chicago. If you get hungry, don’t worry. Andersonville is known for its delicious restaurant scene. Indulge in some Southern comfort food at Big Jones, or treat yourself to frozen custard at Lickity Split.

Lincoln Avenue - Lincoln Square / Ravenswood

The neighborhoods of Lincoln Square and Ravenswood fully embrace Small Business Saturday. Shoppers are welcome to see a collection of ice sculptures at Damen Avenue between Argyle and Leland and at Montrose Avenue between Ravenswood and Damen. Victorian carolers will also be performing throughout the day. To top the day off, the Lincoln Square tree lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Between all of the holiday activities, be sure to stroll down Lincoln Avenue for plenty of shopping. Try Timeless Toys for a little retro flavor and plenty of ideas for the kids on your shopping list. For bookworms, enjoy a drink and a quick browse at the independently owned The Book Cellar.

Milwaukee Avenue is a vibrant corridor with plenty of unique small businesses. The part of the street that runs through Wicker Park is sometimes called “Hipster Highway,” so you know you’ll find some unique and trendy spots. Browse Futurgarb or Una Mae’s for men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. If you are in the mood for antiques or jewelry, try Vintage Underground.
