The State Fair of Texas is a local institution. It’s been a part of Dallas for 130 years, particularly in the Fair Park location. According to a story in NBCDFW, kiosks are set up around the grounds of this year’s State Fair, asking visitors to vote on whether the fair should remain in Fair Park.

The survey at the kiosks asks fairgoers how likely they would be to visit the fair if the location was moved out of Fair Park. State Fair of Texas spokeswoman Karissa Condoianis told the Dallas Morning News the poll doesn’t suggest any such changes are planned. She said that fair officials have no intention of moving out of the Fair Park location.

The survey seeks to find out other information about fair attendees, such as how old they are, how many people came with them, how long they traveled to the fair, and whether they feel safe at the fair.

However, the location of the fair has been up for debate in previous years. A 2015 story in the Dallas Morning News explored the issue of changing the location of the fair.

The city signed a contract to continue hosting the fair at Fair Park until 2028. But former Trammell Crow CEO Don Williams questioned the impact the fair has on the impoverished neighborhoods surrounding it, suggesting its net effect may be negative.

The City Council also recently floated the idea of ending the association between the fair and Fair Park. They claim the fair’s organizers have not met expectations in terms of taking care of the neighborhood, which would constitute a possible breach of contract.
