Sunnyvale Mobile Home Park Could Close, Make Way for Townhomes
The Sunnyvale City Council recently voted 5-2 to certify a conversion impact report that could be a key component of a developer’s plans to close a mobile home park in the Silicon Valley city to make way for new townhomes.
Dunne Investors intends to purchase the property on Evelyn Avenue and build 60 three-story townhomes there. The problem is that it’s currently the site of Blue Bonnet Mobile Home Park, where 50 households are currently living. Unfortunately for the tenants there, it’s not located in “mobile home exclusive” zoning, which makes it easier for a developer to change.
To be fair, Dunne is working with relocation specialists to help Blue Bonnet residents find new housing and ensure compensation for moving. According to the newly-approved conversion report, $122,546 will be given to those who own a one-bedroom home while $130,506 will be given to those in a two-bedroom. Mobile home renters will receive $19,696 if they live in a one-bedroom and $24,560 if it’s a two-bedroom.
While some of the council members were regretful of the decision to approve the report, they also cited that all parties have fulfilled their obligations and followed city rules.
Council members expressed regret that residents were struggling with the closing process, but ultimately approved the conversion impact report as having fulfilled the requirements set out by city ordinance. Smith said she agreed the report was adequate, but wanted to give residents more time beyond six months.
