These Chicago Neighborhoods Will Anchor the Chicago Architecture Biennial
The second Chicago Architecture Biennial, where architects from around the world will convene in Chicago to showcase their work, will happen primarily in the Loop, home to the city’s many famous skyscrapers. But this year, spurred by a goal to be more inclusive and funding from the Chicago Community Trust, the biennial will have six anchor sites in neighborhoods around the city.
These anchors are: The Beverly Arts Center in Beverly, The DePaul Art Museum in Lincoln Park, The DuSable Museum of African American History in Washington Park, The Hyde Park Art Center in Hyde Park, The National Museum of Mexican Art in Heart of Chicago, and The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Humboldt Park.
The sites will feature programming complementing the main exposition at the Chicago Cultural Center.
The theme for the Chicago Architecture Biennial, which will be held September 16, 2017 through January 7, 2018, is “Make New History.” Designers and architects from more than 100 firms representing more than 30 countries will participate. The first biennial in 2015 drew in more than 530,000 visitors.
