Three Bay Area Zip Codes Among Top Places for Families to Live
Walnut Creek, San Anselmo, and West San Jose have been voted as three of the top 30 zip codes to raise a family. That’s according to a new report by real estate investment management firm Home Union.
Home Union analyzed neighborhoods with the most affordable pricing between late 2016 and early 2017, while also looking at the highest-rated public schools in the area. They also combined their own website data and data from Maponics, a website that collects information on public school ratings and public services, to create their list.
Citing a study done by the National Bureau for Economic Research, Home Union also notes that buyers who focus on these zip codes, whether or not they have children attending those schools, stand to gain equity.
Wondering about how solid their findings are? So did SF Gate, who points out you may want to take them with a grain of salt. By researching the 50 largest metro areas in the United States, it would mean the three Bay Area choices weren’t necessarily among the 30-best anywhere, they were just the best for their area. SF Gate also points out that they only chose areas that include lowest median sales prices for single-family homes and school ratings in at least the 80th percentile. If a metro area didn’t have a zip code with both requirements, it was eliminated from contention.
