Transit Village at BART Fruitvale Station in Oakland Moves Forward
The Bay Area Rapid Transit’s plans to build the Fruitvale Transit Village at Fruitvale Station in Oakland are moving onto the next step. Currently in Phase II, the Fruitvale Transit Village project will bring two separate developments with low-income housing units to the area around the BART station.
The first project is Casa Arabella, located at 37th Avenue and East 12th Street. The development includes 94 units, two of which are market-rate and 92 of which are affordable for very low-income residents. Of the affordable units, 20 will be reserved for homeless veterans.
The second project is in the conceptual development phase and will be located at 35th Avenue and East 12th Street. The development has 180 units planned and there is a possibility that an urgent care medical facility will be built on the plot as well.
According to Mass Transit Mag, BART Board Vice President Robert Raburn is excited to see so many units about to be available to low-income residents, working people, and veterans in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland.
BART’s Board of Directors recently approved slight modifications to existing agreements, allowing easements on BART property to allow for emergency vehicle access that meets city requirements. Phase II is now looking at a construction start date in November.
