Transit Village Near Walnut Creek BART Will Include Needed Housing and Parking
A solution to Walnut Creek’s parking and housing shortages could soon arrive in the form of a transit village next to BART’s Walnut Creek station.
The transit village will consist of a 100-space parking garage and a 600-unit residential complex. The $42-million parking garage is the first phase of the project and is expected to be completed by fall 2018. The second phase, which includes the residences, will begin in early 2019. When construction on that phase is finished, the homes will be leased out before construction begins on the next phase. The development will also include shops and restaurants.
According to CBS SF Bay Area, living in the transit village will add a lot of convenience to residents’ lives. Residents will live right near public transportation and can use their cars less. They will also have plenty of amenities right outside their front door.
BART has already built transit-oriented villages in cities like Oakland, Pleasant Hill, and Richmond in an effort to improve housing availability in the high-demand Bay Area.
