Chinese multinational developer Dalian Wanda Group is now working on its $1.2 billion Beverly Hills condominium and hotel project without the help of its partner of two years, Athens Group. According to Bloomberg, the international developer confirmed that Athens is “not involved in the project anymore.” Even though the agency was tied to the project until 2020, the source confirmed that their contracted work was completed back in January. Though there’s much speculation going on around the Athens exit, both camps are staying quiet about its dissolution.

The exit comes at a critical time for the luxury development, One Beverly Hills, right when sales are about to start. The proposed project, which is located at 9900 Wilshire Blvd., will feature 193 luxury condominiums and 134 hotel units. Per The Real Deal, the residential development has already been approved by the City Council and is in the process of receiving its building permits. As part of their agreement, Wanda Group still needs to pay the city over $60 million in upfront fees to construct the project.

Wanda Group has undergone several hurdles already, including a lost campaign against the project’s neighboring competitor Beverly Hilton, a terminated venture to purchase Dick Clark Productions, and earlier this week, the company’s senior VP resigned.

Construction for the condominium development has yet to begin.
