Home developer Warmington Residential has been tapped to convert Vincent Children’s Center in West Covina into townhomes. The eight-acre site is the former home to a K-6 school that closed in 1979, and the property has since been used for special education, child care, and other various programs. The Covina-Valley Unified school board approved the development proposal last week.

Although plans haven’t been finalized, the developer hopes to build a community of 44 detached homes, 66 three-story residences, and an additional half-acre park. However, before moving forward with the residential development, the project must first be discussed with the community including surrounding neighbors as well as locals in the area.

According to San Gabriel Valley Tribune, previous community feedback noted that residents were reluctant to welcome a new auto dealership or anything too high-density or “industrial or commercial,” making it clear the community wants to remain a suburban city.

After receiving suggestions from local residents, the developer will adjust their plan accordingly and iron out potential issues such as property rezoning. Warmington has about 170 days before the plan is finalized.
