The northwestern suburb of Elk Grove Village takes its name from the animals that originally roamed the land before it was settled in the early 1800s. Today, the village is a business hub located near O’Hare Airport. Beyond its business park, Elk Grove Village is a welcoming suburb with a mix of home types and prices as well as plenty of open space.

Shopping for a Home

The cost of living in Elk Grove Village is not the least expensive of the Chicago suburbs, but the suburb’s housing market offers enough variety to fit most budgets. Shoppers in the market for a single-family home will find a wealth of options in neighborhoods like Branigar Estates and Winston Grove.

Both neighborhoods have mostly midsize homes with ample lawn space. The median sale price is in the high $200s in Branigar Estates and in the low $300s in Winston Grove, according to Neighborhoods.com data.

Elk Grove Village also has a number of neighborhoods with primarily attached homes, ideal for homebuyers looking for a lower price. For example, the median home sale price in Village on the Lake is in the low $100s and in the high $100s in Hampton Farms—both neighborhoods that feature primarily attached homes.

Prospective homeowners will also be interested to hear that Elk Grove Village has some of the lowest property taxes in the area as a result of its business park, according to Neighborhoods.com.

Prime Accessibility

Elk Grove Village’s location is one of its primary benefits. The suburb is located just west of O’Hare Airport, and it’s bordered by I-90 and I-290. Commuters who need to drive into the city or nearby suburbs will have easy access with those two major highways, while the nearby airport is a major convenience for long distance commuters.

A Center for Business

The Elk Grove Business Park features 3,600 businesses that employ approximately 100,000 people across industries like manufacturing and logistics. The business park is a significant boon for the community, and it’s being joined by another major business development: Elk Grove Technology Park

Developer Brennan Investment Group broke ground on the 85-acre park in the summer of 2018, according to Journal & Topics.  The park will be the largest contiguous industrial park in the country, according to the Elk Grove Technology Park website.

The new technology park represents approximately $1 billion in new development. Potential tenants for the park include data centers and robotics companies, according to the Journal & Topics report. New development could also bring options like a hotel or restaurant to the park, according to the report.

Education Options

Elk Grove Village is served by two school districts—School District 54 and Community Consolidated School District 59. Together, the two districts have nine elementary schools, five junior high schools, and two high schools.

Amongst those options, many schools are highly rated. For example, Adolph Link Elementary School, Frederick Nerge Elementary School, Michael Collins Elementary School, and Margaret Mead Junior High School all have a 10 out of 10 rating on Great Schools. Additionally, Great Schools ranks J. B. Conant High School and Lake Park High School highly as well.

Outdoor Appeal

A big business park and a technology park in the works may make Elk Grove Village sound like a dense suburb, but the community is balanced by ample outdoor space and activities.

Families with kids will appreciate the easy access to Pirates Cove Children’s Theme Park and Rainbow Falls Waterpark.

Elk Grove Village also has a number of parks throughout its ample space, including Lions Park and Burbank Park along Salt Creek. Lions Park has a swimming pool, playground, sports fields, and a picnic area, while Burbank Park has both sports fields and a playground.

For quieter outdoor space, Elk Grove Village residents have access to Ned Brown Preserve and the 18-hole Fox Run Golf Links course. Ned Brown Preserve, more often known as Busse Woods, invites visitors to walk or bike miles of trails, go boating, and spend a relaxing day fishing. The nature preserve is also home to a small elk herd. Visitors to the nature preserve can see the village’s namesake animal roaming in the safety of their 17-acre pasture.
