Which SoCal neighborhoods are home to the biggest Dodgers fans?
With the Los Angeles Dodgers playing in the World Series, fandom is obviously running rampant throughout Southern California. But where’s the line for the point at which happy Dodgers fans give way to bitter Angels fans?
Curbed LA found this New York Times’ interactive fan map from 2014, which breaks down favorite baseball teams by zip code, and with deeper blues indicating greater Dodgers fandom (and deeper reds obviously being larger hubs of Angels supporters).
Based on that data — which has likely seen some changes in recent seasons given each club’s respective trajectory — Dodgers strongholds are significantly larger than what the Angels have in either Los Angeles or Orange County. Among the zip codes with the highest percentages of Dodgers fans:
- South Gate - 90280 (71 percent)
- East Los Angeles - 90022 (70 percent)
- City Terrace - 90063 (69 percent)
- Montebello - 90640 (68 percent)
- Alhambra - 91803 (67 percent)
- Lincoln Heights - 90031 (67 percent)
Interestingly, the zip code where Dodger Stadium resides (90012) shows just 58 percent Dodgers support. The New York Yankees (as is the case in many zip codes in the nationwide study) are actually second with 10 percent.
The strongest area of support for the Angels is in 92706 — the intersection of Santa Ana and Orange — at just 59 percent. According to the map, Dodgers fandom also runs south all the way to the Mexican border in the eastern portion of California. The most southwestern point of predominantly Dodgers fandom is in Avalon. There’s also a small pocket in Murrieta in Riverside County.
