Chicago's Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) is planning to open a 48,000-square-foot Jewel-Osco in Woodlawn, according to The Chicago Maroon

The new grocery store, set to open in 2019, is expected to bring more than 200 jobs to the neighborhood. The store will be located south of the University of Chicago at East 61st Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to the report.

The grocery store will help fill a need in Woodlawn, which is often considered a food desert or a low-food access area, according to the report.

POAH is working on other projects in Woodlawn, including the mixed-income development Woodlawn Station. The transit-oriented development will be located near the Cottage Grove Green Line station.
