There are many newer condominiums and gut rehabs for those looking for a modern home, but there are also more affordable places that encourage first-time homebuyers to move into the neighborhood. A pocket of the larger Lakeview neighborhood, Boystown is rich in food and restaurant options throughout. The area includes some of the city’s most-hyped restaurants, from vegan to traditional American and tapas restaurants. Boystown is also heavy on late-night BYOB options, which have become a large part of the area's nightlife. Check out Crisp just south of the neighborhood for delicious Korean-style fried chicken.

Boystown is a lively neighborhood that’s home to a celebrated LGBT community. As a result of the prosperous nightlife scene, many of the residents are young adults attending college or just kicking off their careers. However, you will still find families in the neighborhood as it's in a very attractive area of the city with great amenities.

Between bars, pubs, and nightclubs, there's practically something for everyone in Boystown on a Friday night. Take a walk up Halsted Avenue on a weekend evening and you'll find the street packed with people. Wrigleyville is also a short walk away for the neighborhood’s sports fans. Despite its active nightlife, Boystown still has a lot to offer for those looking for a quiet night, including art galleries and improv theaters.

You'll find there's just as much to do in the morning as there was the night before in Boystown. There's a host of breakfast and brunch spots in the area, especially on Halsted, where a Sunday spent shopping is also easily achieved. Boystown is very close to Lake Michigan, so it's easy to spend a Sunday biking the lakefront trail or relaxing on the beaches and green spaces.

I love Boystown! :)

Ashley W
I've been living in East Lakeview for around 2.5 years on and off. When I first moved to Chicago, I lived on Broadway and Belmont and felt a bit overwhelmed by the hustle & bustle. Don't be fooled though, there are many quaint, tree-lined streets in this part of town. And after trying out a different neighborhood further west for a year, I was pulled back in to East Lakeview by it's convenience and surprising affordability. There is something to do for everyone here: many coffee shops, bars, and restaurants, lakeshore path, dog parks, shopping and endless ways of public transportation. I really feel spoiled by this truly awesome neighborhood!

Safe place is the heart of it all

When I first moved to Chicago, I rented with a friend for a few months before a lease expired and then moved to a bigger place. So convenient to restaurants and bars, as well as Wrigley Field and the Lakefront. Very safe and fun area!
