About Brookhill

Situated along the busy fairways of Remount Road and S. Tryon Street, the Brookhill neighborhood was originally built in 1951 to provide affordable housing units to Charlotte residents. Today, the area still remains a primarily residential area where many of the same families have lived in the development’s units for generations. For years, the neighborhood has been in the sights of local developers who want to redevelop the area to make Brookhill somewhat of an extension of the popular and always expanding South End neighborhood.

Around Brookhill

Housing options are currently fairly limited in this small pocket of the Queen City, with less than half of the neighborhood’s original units still in use as monthly rentals. However, as neighboring South End expands, and the revitalization of Brookhill begins, the list of options will grow exponentially. Proposed plans for the area include a number of new apartment buildings that will feature hundreds of units with floor plans ranging from small studios to large, multi-room layouts.

Since the neighborhood is largely residential, there aren’t a lot of dining options directly within Brookhill. Luckily, the neighborhood is surrounded by plenty of areas that are teeming with delicious places to eat. While there are a number of fast-food and chain restaurants in the vicinity, they’re highly outnumbered by popular local eateries that you can find in nearby South End and Dilworth. Stop by Barcelona Wine Bar and indulge in traditional Spanish tapas or hop over to Hawkers Asian Street Food for a menu full of flavorful dishes ranging from wontons and skewers to Pad Thai. For traditional American fare and Southern comfort dishes, check out Leroy Fox South End.

Brookhills is made up of a mixture of long-standing single-family and attached homes that date back to the neighborhood’s original founding in the 1950s. Directly across the street you’ll see the vibrant South End neighborhood, while the towering skyscrapers that make up the Charlotte skyline sit off in the distance. Residents can find everything they need from daily conveniences like pharmacies and markets to retail shopping and a post office, just a few streets over along South Boulevard.

Until the area fully transitions, you’ll want to take a short walk over to the South End neighborhood. There, you’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars, and breweries. You can always expect crowds at places like the three-story Charlotte Beer Garden. Another option is to catch the LYNX Light Rail at one of the nearby stops and take a ride into Uptown, where you can enjoy a live performance at one of the city’s many theaters or watch one of Charlotte’s professional teams vie for a win.

Pick up where you left off Friday night and make your way back over to historic South End to brewery hop between some of Charlotte’s most popular craft breweries. There are several within a stone’s throw of each other. Sycamore Brewing, Wooden Robot, Triple C, and Suffolk Punch are fan favorites. Looking for something a little more active? Take a stroll along the 3.5-mile Rail Trail that’s just a few streets over from S. Tryon Street, or hit up Inner Peaks South End for indoor rock climbing.

Brookhill is fairly walkable with several daily conveniences like Publix Supermarket and a local pharmacy all within walking distance. Don’t feel like walking? The area is also considerably bike-friendly, especially along the Rail Trail. There are a number of public transportation options close to the neighborhood that residents can take advantage of. The LYNX Blue Line Light Rail provides an efficient way for Brookhill residents to get into the city and beyond with a total of 26 stops along its almost 20-mile route. There are three different light rail stops located within a little over half a mile of Brookhill, making it extremely easy and convenient for residents to catch a ride.
