Overall, my experience at Burroughs was not great. I had many teachers that were not good at teaching and made me feel inadequate as a result. They stress the importance of college without showing you other options in a society where having a degree rarely works out in your favor. Many teachers I had were unwilling to give me extra help when I needed it. I graduated 3 years ago and I still have nightmares about going to school there. The positive of my experience was a few select teachers that changed my life for the better. If you’re going to be attending Burroughs all I can do is advise you to take Mr Carman’s video production class. It’s the only class that’s stuck with me. That class made me forget the terrible classes I had and made me excited to be alive. Other teachers should learn from him.

All three of my children went to Burroughs. There are some excellent teachers here (and a few bad ones). If your child is into the performing arts (singing, dancing, instruments, tech crew, drama, art), this school is the best school in the U.S. for preparing for a performing arts career. One of my daughters was an art and writing kid, and she won several awards for her art and it was on public display multiple times. Another daughter of mine was part of the show choir program for 4 years -- it is the top-rated show choir program in the U.S. (and probably the world); incredible experiences that surpass most college programs.I'm on the fence about the new principal. She isn't as friendly as the last principal -- more about administrating than making relationships. I wish that would change. The school also desperately needs more bathrooms for the students. Poor school design, especially since many bathrooms are locked and designated as teacher only. I see this as a serious human rights violation.Burbank is a wonderful community. Many, many loving parents and families here. We specifically moved to Burbank for the family environment and the good schools. We have not been disappointed. The parents tend to be quite vocal when a teacher or program isn't good. But they also come out in droves to fundraise and volunteer. An extremely generous group overall.

I have been a Burroughs parent for 5 years and feel this school has challenging academics, safety, and a huge variety of quality extra curricular programs for my kids to choose from.

I sent my daughter here because I thought that being in the Burbank School District would be good for her academically, and while the academics are good, the staff doesn't really deal with bulling very well. Last year my daughter had the worst year of her life at this school whiich finally culminated in a fight. The staff says to report bulling, then she gets labled a rat. You can't win. I believe the school administration is blind to what is really going on in the daily lives of the kids that are there. If your a good student everything is handed to you, if you get into trouble, then there are after you, lerking and watching your every move, making the child feel like they are being singled out. I finally had to transfer her out to the Glendale Unified School District. Hopefully she will prosper there.
