The community spans nearly 2,000 acres, with the majority of the land zoned for residential housing and the rest to the Columbia Lakes Golf & Country Club. West Columbia Elementary and Columbia High School are located next to each other in town. West Brazos Junior High is along TX-36 in nearby Brazoria.
