Downtown Fort Lauderdale

Downtown Fort Lauderdale has undergone a rigorous revitalization, with thousands of new condo units added and major improvements in infrastructure completed over the last several years. As a result, downtown is developing into a vibrant urban neighborhood with excellent public amenities and a cosmopolitan vibe. Many of Fort Lauderdale’s most prominent cultural attractions are within or very close to downtown. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Museum of Discovery and Science, and the NSU Art Museum are within walking distance of each other. Smaller history museums, private art galleries, and entertainment venues are spread throughout the downtown area. The Riverwalk is beautifully landscaped with tropical vegetation, connects to several delightful parks and is amazing for early morning walks or runs. The nightlife and dining scene is on the rise. There is a plenitude of upscale bars and restaurants to choose from. Cuisines offered run the full range of ethnic and regional styles. Bars and nightclubs feature craft beers and designer cocktails. An important part of the Fort Lauderdale’s plan to revitalize its downtown area was to make it more walkable, which is clearly evident. With so many ground-floor retail storefronts, virtually any daily errand or shopping need is within easy walking distance. Public bus lines run along most of the neighborhood’s major streets. Thanks to Brightline, the only private light rail line in the US, commuting to Miami or West Palm Beach from Fort Lauderdale is only a 30 minute trip.
