Around East Side

The East Side of San Antonio is directly east of Downtown. Some of the oldest neighborhoods in all of the city are here including Dignowty Hill and Denver Heights. "Urban pioneers" flock to these two East Side neighborhoods for a bargain-priced home close to work and play. Outdoorsy folks should check out Wheatley Heights, a pocket community surrounded by a long greenspace that follows Salado Creek.

San Antonio is best known for its amazing Mexican food, and the East Side of town does not disappoint. Grab a street taco (or two) at a local taqueria for a quick and tasty lunch. For dinner, there are a number of cultural cuisines including Chinese, Italian, or good ole' Texas barbecue. You can also find a pizzeria and a brewery on this side of town. And with the Riverwalk just minutes away (even by foot) you have access to all the restaurants and bars that line the San Antonio River.

Since the AT&T Center is in the heart of the East Side, you can expect to see San Antonio Spurs fans anytime the team is playing at home. Tourists also flock to this area to stay in hotels that offer quick access to the River Walk at a slightly lower price than actually staying on the Riverwalk. The residents in this part of town are as diverse as the city itself. Families and young professionals looking to be a part of the revitalization project call the East Side home. On Saturdays, expect to see many of these people out at Dignowty Hill's farmers market shopping for local produce and goods.

Spend your evening exploring one of the local breweries or tap houses that call the East Side home. Or venture a little farther to San Antonio's famous Riverwalk, which is only minutes away. This hub of activity is accessible by foot, bicycle, or car. There is so much to do in San Antonio and the East Side is the perfect place to begin your adventure.

With a moderate climate much of the year, getting out is easy to do in San Antonio. And there are so many good reasons to explore the outdoors here. If you enjoy sports, head over to the nearby Wheatley Heights Sports Complex where you can find baseball fields, soccer fields, hiking and biking trails, and even a three-mile cross country trail along the Salado River. Or venture a little farther to explore one of the five historic missions in San Antonio, including the famous Alamo. If you have guests in from out of town, of course, you can always take them to the Riverwalk. Or for those who like adventure, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld are both just a short drive away.
