Around Edenwald

Distance from Boston Road, the main street through the edge of Edenwald, is attractive to those looking to call the neighborhood home. Proximity to Seton Falls Park is a plus. There are lots of multi-family complexes scattered throughout Edenwald, along with sections where only single-family homes can be found for blocks. The nearby Woodlawn Heights and Wakefield neighborhoods offer a similar variety.

While eating in Edenwald is hardly a reason to travel that far uptown, there is a surprising amount of variety available. Seafood abounds, in both casual and formal senses. Caribbean spots are a local favorite, including House of Flava’. The nearby Eastchester has a weekly market on Thursdays, offering fresh produce.

Edenwald is small, as far as neighborhoods in the Bronx go—only about four blocks wide at its smallest. There’s a New York Public Library branch on East 233rd Street. Seton Falls Park is charmingly unkempt, with rambling paths on 30 acres of respite from an otherwise trafficked area. A man-made waterfall flows on the west side of the park. Playgrounds and public housing punctuate the area, as well. Most homes open to the street with lawns and private greenspaces dotted very sparsely.

Edenwald isn’t known for its Friday night options. Depending on the season, you’ll find a few events held in Seton Falls Park, such as summer movies in the park. There are a few bars and restaurants near Boston Road, which is home to all things bustling, including dive bars and lounges.

Take a stroll in Seton Falls Park and enjoy bird watching or admiring the manufactured waterfall. If you want to explore outside of Edenwald, take a trip to the iconic Bronx Zoo that’s 20 minutes away via car. After the zoo, wander around the New York Botanical Garden as the afternoon drifts on before making the ride back home. If you’re looking for a last-minute dinner spot, Laconia Fish Market on Laconia Avenue is the perfect place to end an eventful day. Try their delicious fish and chips in a low-key atmosphere.

While commuting to JFK or LaGuardia might seem daunting, the local option of Westchester County is a mere 30-minute drive away. Traveling into Grand Central takes about 50 minutes on the 5 train, which services the east side of Manhattan. Local buses, like the 0060 or Bx31 make getting to other areas of the Bronx quite easy. Travel into Brooklyn starts with the 5 train, a veritable lifeline when it comes to leaving Edenwald.
