Englewood

About Englewood

The neighborhood of Englewood is nestled between I-95 on its southwest side, and Route 212 on its northeast side, making it a convenient community for people who commute to work in either Jacksonville or Jacksonville Beach. There is mix of apartment buildings and residential homes, with the latter being in more abundance. In contrast with many gridded modern developments, lots of tiny little streets and funky turns make this neighborhood feel cozy and old-fashioned, like the kind of place where kids play ball in the street and neighbors know each other by their first names.

Around Englewood

Spring Park Road runs north to south through Englewood, and while there are homes dotted along both sides, this road tends to have lots of fast-moving traffic. If you have youngsters or pets, you're better off in one of the homes south of San Diego Road, where you'll be within bicycling distance or a short bus ride to the local elementary school. If your kids are older, or you want to be away from the shops, opt for the southern end, near Englewood High School.

For a cheap, fast bite, nothing beats Krystal Burgers on University Boulevard. It's also a popular gathering spot for the local high school students after Friday night football games. For date night or family dining, head to the Mudville Grille, where adults can enjoy the full bar and kids can have soft drinks and order off the kid's menu. Lots of smaller, more casual fast food spots are also available throughout the area.

This is small town America at its best. It's common to see joggers, young and adult bicyclists, older people walking for exercise, and kids shooting hoops in the driveway. Englewood is better defined by what you won't see. You won't see backyard swimming pools, manicured lawns or stately mini-mansions. Instead, you'll see everyday people living life to the fullest.

Lots of young adults have a bite and a cocktail at Cuba Libre nightclub on Atlantic Avenue, where salsa dancing is highly encouraged against a backdrop of live and house music. For a more quiet evening, older folks enjoy the drive to nearby San Marco Theatre & Grill, which features old films on the big screen.

Enjoy services at one of several houses of worship in Englewood. Then visit Firehouse Subs and pick up takeout lunch for the family. Toss the football and have a picnic in the greenway park along the south side of Pottsburg Creek.
