Could not have been more pleased with Kindergarten here. Fantastic teachers, administrative staff, nurse etc.Wonderful environment for learning and being creative. No complaints at all after one year. Looking forward to moving into the new facility at Johnson K-8!

It is really SAD that someone from the community would post absolutely incorrect information about our wonderful school. We have had some challenges over the past few years because of a change in leadership and county issues. However, we are now a B school! My children are receiving an amazing IB education. They are challenged and love coming to school! Visit ibo.org to learn more about an IB education. It is also the only public elementary school that I know of that teaches Spanish. They are truly better prepared for middle school than their peers at other A rated schools. The TEACHERS ARE AMAZING!!! Also like the parent that posted on February 8, Wakeland is just being considered for relocation not closure based on the condition of the school.

The teachers and parents are completely committed to the students. There is no one I have talked to who can deny the stellar education students at Wakeland receive, even those who have left to attend other public schools in Manatee county. My children love school. Only a great school fosters love of learning! Please check facts before submitting reviews, especially if you are not familiar enough with the school to reflect it honestly. Wakeland has demonstrated extreme success in its standardized testing over the last year, which will be confirmed when the FSA test scores are released this month. The school has never taught only to see success on standardized tests but rather success in academics as a whole. Again, facts are incorrect in other reviews about recent discussions regarding Wakeland. District is not proposing to close the school because of academic performance. The school will not be closed, only relocated due to foundation issues in the building that may potentially be too expensive to repair, but even that has not yet been determined.

Do your research before selecting Frances Wakeland Elementary School.School grades have declined steadily over the past several years. It was rated by the FLDOE as a "D" school in 2014, after being rated a "B" school in 2012. This change in performance coincided with a change in leadership at the school. In recent years, there has been high teacher turnover, especially in the Upper Elementary grades. Because of poor performance on standards-based assessments, and a failure to adequately blend their IBO curriculum with State of Florida learning goals, Manatee County is considering closing the school down permanently.
