We really struggled with the decision of where to send my daughter for HS. She spent K-8 at a private school so we were looking at public choice as well as private.Ultimately, I let her decide, and after auditioning for their dance program, she decided this was the place. She is just finishing out her freshman year and it has been a good experience for her.She likes that the students in all the arts areas are very welcoming. Most of the students in PCCA are high achieving and goal oriented, and those are the people she surrounds herself with. They require PCCA students to take all honors classes, and she has had wonderful teachers. We both like the block schedule which frees up some time at the end of class to get any homework done. If you want to learn and do well, you will. The teachers want you to succeed and they really do care. This year she did have one general class (Algebra 1) as they did not offer honors for that. It started out terrible. She said there were a few fights, and the class on a whole is very disruptive. After talking to the counselor, she asked to move to the front of the class and that helped.I am happy with the program as she wants to major in dance in college and I feel she will be very prepared both artistically and academically.Bottom line...I can see why people who are not in a program (and even some who are) would have a different experience. No matter how bad a school is, if you want to succeed, you can and will. They offer honors and AP so there are classes for students who want to be challenged.

I agree with the first 2 posts learning here is a joke they do bride kids to pass tests my son passed the F-Cat with no problems but it really made him angry when they started offering Universal passes and free prom tickets to those who could re-take the test and pass, my son was in the arts program and he was not one of the select few who was privileged to participate he was treated like an outcast and the regular classes were so disrupted by rude kids they didn't learn as much as they should have. When he got to college he had to take a lot of math and chemistry classes to catch up and begin working on his degree

Gibbs is a terrible school. The academics are substandard with many "retakes" on tests while the arts program is clearly established for only a select few (so select that the majority of arts kids can't even participate). Why there is still funding for this school is beyond me.
