In 2016/2017 my K got lice day 3. Her K teacher would allow her middle school daughter to teach in the morning until her bus came while she sat at her desk. I expressed concern about my daughter having trouble manipulating the mouse on the computer because she had never used one before. The next day she sent me a video of her fumbling the mouse while she sat at her desk testing another child. She never got up to help her. What was the point of that?? And can teachers video our children? She made fun of an African American child’s name, said he should’ve gotten a regular name. A boy got sick and the janitor needed to be called. When he came the teacher pointed to the child and said “He did it!” in a nasty tone. He was 5!!!! She would give certain kids treats and withhold treats from other kids while they sat and watched them eat. If kids didn’t wear their K shirts on Wednesday’s they were made to sit alone in the cafeteria while the others could eat in the classroom. This continued even after I spoke to the principal, twice. She said the teacher was tenured and even though she was complained about MANY times before, she would need consecutive years with bad reports to be fired. Her teacher also put all the kids names on a bulletin board in lists of who was mastering work and who needed help. This created a “Sally is smart and Johnny is not” attitude with all the kids. She often favored one child and would have her explain things to the class as if she was the teacher. Again creating a this child is so smart she can teach the rest of us attitude. I volunteered weekly in the classroom and just cringed at how all the teachers there gossiped about not only each other but the parents. I wouldn’t engage and changed the topic only to be constantly made to feel uncomfortable by not joining in on the gossip. The teacher next door to my daughters classroom literally screamed the whole day. During lunch the principal would yell at kids on the microphone while standing directly in front of them in the lunchroom. Totally ridiculous to allow all the kids to hear individual reprimands and created a very tense lunch environment. The lunch aides would throw kids food away! At her new school entering first grade she was behind in reading and math.

We're in our 6th year at Shore Acres Elementary and have loved it so much. The PTA is strong. Leadership is effective. The teachers are supportive and love the children. My kids are thriving on the standardized tests (4s and 5s). The field trips are awesome (going to Nasa this year with 5th grade). I can't say enough about it.

We have been at this school for four years. Both of my children are receiving a wonderful education. The teachers are experienced and caring. The building is newer and the neighborhood is great. The PTA is very active and helps make this feel like a community school. My children have enjoyed the after school activities too. They've been in run club and garden club. This year they are also doing STEM club, Challenge Island, and strings. We feel very lucky to be at SAE!
