Around Flatiron District
The Flatiron District is a very quaint neighborhood. Living on East 23rd Street not only puts you on the block of the landmark Flatiron Building but also across the street from Madison Square Park. While West 23rd Street puts residents next to Eataly, a popular and large Italian market filled with restaurants and grocery shops.
The Flatiron District offers some of the best restaurants in the city, where you’ll find international cuisines ranging from American and Italian to Korean and Japanese. On West 23rd street there’s Eataly, which offers fine dining Italian restaurants, cooking lessons, and fresh groceries. Also on West 23rd is Mangia 23rd, an Italian and Mediterranean hybrid restaurant. Within Madison Square Park lies famed burger joint Shake Shack. North of the park is Mexicue, which has Mexican-influenced barbecue items and cocktails.
At the center of the Flatiron District is the Flatiron Building. Built in 1902, the 22-story building has an unmistakable triangle shape. On Park Avenue lies Fotografiska New York—a hip photography museum—offering shows from established and new artists. A neighborhood favorite is Madison Square Park, which has a dog park, playground, and lawns for picnics. Nearby the park is a newly developed skyscraper named the Madison Square Park tower, which features a chic glass design that reflects the city’s skyline.
With a group of friends head over to Escape the Room NYC. Team up and try to solve puzzles in uniquely designed Escape Rooms. After the mission is complete, enjoy a celebratory craft drink and play some pool in the lounge area at The Clocktower. If the weather is nice, check out an outside show at Madison Square Park.
Start your day with a cup of coffee and enjoy the views at the Flatiron Public Plaza, which is next to Madison Square Park. Then walk over to Patisserie Chanson where you can have some pastries and tea. If you’re in the mood to shop, enjoy the multitude of clothing shopping options on Madison Avenue. After, walk across the park and head over to the Lego Store for a family fun shopping experience. End your day by watching the sunset on the Madison Square Park Tower.
The Flatiron District is the perfect neighborhood for those that don’t own a car. The neighborhood is very walkable and bikeable, making it easy to get errands done. There are also several public transit options like the R and W trains, which stop right on the block of the Flatiron Building. The 6 train runs up and down Park Avenue, along with stops at 23rd Street. The MTA bus stops on West 27th Street. You can also find a taxi and limo service on East 25th Street or rent a car from Zipcar, which is on West 21st Street and 5th Avenue. A few blocks away on West 23rd Street is the 1 and 2 trains.
