The teachers care about the students in the building. The leaders help the school. They help the families in the community.

The teachers are amazing, administration is very professional, Dekalb County schools are very supportive of teachers and it has an overall positive learning environment.

Indian Creek serves a very complex population of students with 85%+ coming as refugees from more than 40 countries around the world. Very few speak English as they arrive and they are typically placed in low-income housing surrounding the school making 90% of our students walkers (only 2 buses for 1100 students!). Once our students are in the country/school for 2-3 years, their families normally acclimate, get work, and "move to greener pastures" (newer appartments, house, etc.) leaving us as a "revolving door". However, as a school we are VERY successful in helping our students to GROW and LEARN while they are here. After 4+ years in the country, many of our students move on to thrive in higher grades (middle and high school). Many of our teachers are top notch and offer the best education to the students and offer countless hours before and after school to help them gain language and grade level skills. As students come to us in grades Pre-K-5ht grade, many do not have any prior school experience, making our jobs that much more challenging, but the reward is certainly worth it once we see them SUCCEED, even if it takes years to notice that growth. I KNOW ICES is a success!

My sister and son both attended Indian Creek from 3rd to 5th grade and they loved their teachers. I personally felt the work wasn't challenging. My daughter is now in kindergarten and she never has homework, and the language barriers will slow some of the students down. Her teacher is responsible for 26 students.
