Haw Creek Elementary School

Our first year in this school. We moved here from out of state. Our daughter always felt welcome and loves the school. She received all the support from her teachers and classmates through out the year.

This is a very good and safe school for kids. The teachers are engaged and have always been available via email or phone. This is the best elementary school in the county and it produces leaders. Other school's parents, like in Daves Creek, focus on test scores only and are producing a group of kids with no leadership or social skills. This is very noticable once they attend middle school and struggle to fit in.

My child is in Ms. Mucahy's class. We feel very blessed because it's obvious that she and Ms. Whitney really care about the children. The class sings good morning to each child by name every morning. They are just the sweetest teachers imaginable.

I think the cold and callous mileau of the school begins with its principal. She is single-minded and one gets the impression that the children and parents get in the way of her personal climb to greatness. When one father confronted her in a constructive way about the school's failure to open the building 10 minutes early so that parents and children waiting outside in 7 weather could be more comfortable, she said, "That's just not what we do." The school is more focused on Common Core than common sense and character development. And I'm not the only parent that feels this way.
