Jonesboro is located right off four major interstate highways making it easily accessible for drivers and commuters to and from nearby Atlanta and other surrounding areas. MARTA is in the approval process of extending the rail line to Jonesboro for public transportation service to Atlanta.
Jonesboro is part of the Clayton County Public Schools system. Their high schools have a comprehensive curriculum, offering vocational and technical programs in addition to general and college preparatory courses. Clayton County Public Schools is one of the larger school systems in the state with 37 elementary schools, 17 middle schools, and 12 high schools.
As the setting for the literary epic Gone with the Wind, Jonesboro offers tours of the historic homes referenced in the novel as well as some of the costumes and set props from the film are on display at the Road to Tara Museum. The Clayton County International Park in Jonesboro is a destination for outdoor fun with plenty of pavilions and fields for sporting events as well as the main attraction—the lakefront beach complete with a waterpark for all ages to enjoy.
