I am a substitute teacher who works in many schools all over the county. The teachers at Green Acres do not seem to dress any differently than anywhere else. In fact, I have subbed in three different states: Georgia, Colorado, and Minnesota. Casual dress is the norm, particularly for elementary teachers. Although I like to wear business casual (dress pants, nice top, heels) to work, I can not do this every day. I tend to dress up more when I teach high school than when I teach elementary or middle school. Elementary teachers are down on their hands and knees half the day. Now that paras are being cut, they have recess duty and often have to help out with P.E. Even at the middle school and high school level, I've gone to wearing tennis shoes every third day or so. I am still in my 20s, and I my feet and back hurt from walking on the hard cement floors. A good teacher almost never sits down. Dress shoes are such a nightmare. Dressing casually is really a matter of practicaily. As long as the dress is not trashy, offensive, or violates the school dress policy, I would reather see teachers happy, relaxed and comfortable so they can focus on helping nurture your children!
