Stockbridge’s biggest employer is Vulcan Materials Company, the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates. A satellite of the premier medical facility Piedmont Hospital is located in Stockbridge. Just outside of Atlanta, Stockbridge offers spacious housing options, historic downtown architecture, and lots of beautiful outdoor greenspace.
Cost of Living
The cost of living in Stockbridge is very reasonable for a metro Atlanta suburb—only slightly higher than the state and national averages. The median home price in Stockbridge is much lower than the national average. The city also has access to many affordable grocery stores and shopping.
Stockbridge is conveniently located close to main highways I-75 and I-675 and is just a 20-minute drive from the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. There are fixed bus routes serving Stockbridge as part of the Henry County Transit system for convenient local public transportation.
Stockbridge is part of the Henry County School District. The public schools include 29 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, 10 high schools, and three specialty schools. There are higher education opportunities as well in Stockbridge including Clayton State University, Southern Crescent Technical College, and a location of DeVry University.
There are five community parks in Stockbridge complete with playgrounds, picnic areas and fields for various sports and activities. Shopping options include commercial shopping centers, flea markets and local boutiques. For dining, there’s everything from locally owned restaurants, chain restaurants and food trucks. The Stockbridge Community Arts Center holds performances and art shows regularly. There are several festivals throughout the year featuring food, music and entertainment.
