Tyrone is known as a pleasant place to live with spacious homes on tree-covered lots. The town’s Scottish and Irish immigrants named the area after County Tyrone in Ireland, as their new land reminded them of their old country. There are still residents of Tyrone that are descendants of those original Irish immigrants. Like nearby Peachtree City, residents of Tyrone also use golf carts for in-town transportation.

The cost of living in Tyrone is slightly higher than the state average and just a bit higher than the national average. The median home price is typically in the midrange. The town has several multimillion-dollar estates as well as many affordable options for first-time homebuyers.
Transportation
Tyrone is located just three miles from major interstate 85, connected by Georgia State Route 74 that runs through the city. It’s a short drive from the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Peachtree Shuttle is a by-appointment transit service in the Tyrone and Peachtree City for transportation within the area and to the Atlanta airport.
Schools
Tyrone is part of the Fayette County School District that includes just three public schools in this small suburb, including Burch Elementary, Flat Rock Middle School and Sandy Creek High School. There is also one private Catholic school. Tyrone boasts a high graduation rate, while Fayette County schools have the second highest graduation rate in metro Atlanta and fourth highest in the state. Sandy Creek High School students are high-performing on tests, with test scores that are top three in the state for the ACT.
Attractions
Every year, residents look forward to the Founders Day Festival, a major annual event with multiple days of fun and entertainment celebrating Tyrone’s Irish heritage. There’s also lots of parks and greenspaces for enjoying the outdoors and activities like golfing. Tyrone has plenty of local coffee shops, restaurants and retailers to enjoy as well.
