The most famous neighborhood institution here is the Pancake Pantry. It has served up helpings of sweet and savory pancake recipes for over 55 years. For something more unusual, Hillsboro has attracted an abundance of trendy and experimental restaurants. You'll find everything, from juice bars to raw vegan places, and more. The heart of Hillsboro's culinary scene is along Church Street. With two universities within walking distance of each other, it's no surprise that the neighborhood also has an energetic and thriving nightlife. The heart of the bar scene is on Belcourt Avenue, where you can get a drink before enjoying a play at the historic Belcourt Theater.

Mornings can get hectic, especially in the streets alongside Vanderbilt, as over 12,000 students in the area try to get to class. Midday slows down a little bit, and more crowds explore local shopping destinations. By evening, things pick up again. Nights in Hillsboro tend to be boisterous, especially on the weekends, as partygoers explore the local nightlife. The quietest part of Hillsboro is to the south, where you can find more peaceful places along Woodlawn Drive.

Locals who are looking for Friday night entertainment in this neighborhood will likely check what's on at Belcourt Theater. This famous nonprofit film center, built in 1925, features live music, theater productions, and classic or indie films. Vanderbilt and Belmont Universities also offer free or low-cost performances where students show off the art, music, and acting skills they've honed over the semester. After a play, locals enjoy kicking back at one of the area's themed bars or nightclubs. In fact, different types of bars are some of the most popular businesses around this neighborhood. In Hillsboro, you can experience sports bars, juice bars, hookah bars, and even coffee bars.

If the weather's beautiful, locals love to explore Belmont Mansion. This 10,000 square foot home, built in 1853 and well maintained to this day, features some of the most beautiful, classically Southern architecture in the city. Guided tours are available and you can learn about the remarkable history of the mansion and its first owner, Adelicia Acklen. If the weather isn’t on your side, you can head to one of the quirky museums and art centers in the area, such as the Gallery of Iconic Guitars, located on Belmont University's campus.
