Wilson Elementary School

This is a great school complete with dedicated, caring teachers. While the ranking is certainly important, be careful not to be misled by it. Also, please note that the false "labels" often attributed to an entire community (and thus its people) can often impact the ranking.My son and daughter represent 12+ collective years at Wilson. In that timeframe, we have only seen the school continue to grow. If you are an active parent who believes the teachers are there to support, not "fill-in" for you, you'll find this school has much to offer. Great technology resources, clean and bright settings, nice support staff and teachers who care about the community they serve. Just as importantly, the principal and his leadership team go out of their way to involve parents. The school district has also poured many resources and programs into the school over the years.One of the biggest challenges this school faces is increasing its standardized test scores. The scores have grown over the years, but perhaps not enough yet to effect the Great Schools ranking. That said, this is where the school, kids and parents have to step up TOGETHER. Perhaps more should be done to educate parents and students about the connection between these tests, state/federal school funding models and the tax payer. Too often, entire cities like Chicago Heights are labeled as "bad," which implies the people of the community are "bad" too. Like any community, Chi Heights has its challenges. However, Wilson School is not one of them.

This school is not bad at all and has improved a LOT over the years.Principal does a great job.Its the parents fault their kids are failing.Teachers are nice and teach right stuff for kids. 5 stars

Wilson is a cutting edge school with a caring staff that is highly dedicated to all their students. I have witnessed dramatic, positive changes in this school over the last 5 years. The public should be made aware of this.

This school is something else. Its pretty sad that a TEACHER picks on a child!
