As a car-centric suburb with access to plenty of greenspace, East Dundee has limited public transportation. Big Timber is the nearest Metra train station, but as the last stop on the Milwaukee West line, it’ll take you an hour and twenty minutes to get in to Chicago’s Union Station. East Dundee is also served by Pace Bus route 543 (local service along IL-25 through Carpentersville, East Dundee, and Elgin) and route 803 (local service through Carpentersville and East Dundee to Spring Valley Mall in West Dundee).

This provides East Dundee families with a variety of quality public schools as well as a selection of high-achieving private institutions.
Attractions
While East Dundee forms one of the essential halves of the area’s thriving downtown, it has its own attractions too. Most notably, East Dundee is home to a family-friendly amusement park—Santa’s Village Azoosment Park. With shows, games, animal attractions, and thrill rides for kids, Santa’s Village attracts families from all across Chicagoland. East Dundee also houses the Dundee Township Tourist Center, also known as “The Depot.” Open during the warmer months, the Depot hosts a farmer’s market and serves as a rest stop along the 60-mile Fox River Bike Path, the longest continuous paved bike path in the state. Once part of the Chicago-Northwestern train line, The Depot and the Fox River Bike Path are evidence of East Dundee’s adaptive spirit when it comes to repurposing historical spaces.
