Locally, Hinsdale is probably best known for the excellent school system and as a wonderful neighborhood to raise a family. Residents enjoy fantastic amenities, including a wonderful park district. However, Hinsdale residents enjoy a higher than average income and a vast majority hold advanced degrees. The unemployment rate here is also much lower than the median unemployment rate in the state.
There are a lot of options for public transportation in Hinsdale. Many residents choose to drive, and the village is bordered by Route 83 and I-294. There is also easy access to I-55. These main roadways allow residents access to surrounding suburbs and into the city. For those who wish to commute by train, there are three stations in Hinsdale, as well as ample bus routes serviced by Pace. Hinsdale residents tend to be active, as well. You'll notice many bike paths and see a great deal of joggers, walkers, and bikers in your morning and evening commute.
Hinsdale is served by school district 181, which includes several elementary and middle schools. Hinsdale Central High School is ranked highly in the state of Illinois. Students here test exceptionally well, they have a very high graduation rate and a majority of their students go on to advanced degrees. Over 60% of Hinsdale's public high school students participate in their Advanced Placement courses. There are also several private schools available for parents who prefer religious or private education within Hinsdale and in the surrounding areas.
There are numerous events and attractions throughout the year for residents of Hinsdale. The park district consists of several parks with various amenities. In the summer months, residents take advantage of the public pool where parents can enroll their children for lessons or simply bring them to swim during open hours. There are skate rinks, sledding hills, and several tennis courts. The Katherine Legge Memorial Park has a clubhouse as well as a Lodge that can be rented for parties. There are several fests and events throughout the year, such as the Fall Family Festival, movie nights in the park, and Breakfast with Santa.
