Matteson Elementary School

Matteson Elementary: You should know that Matteson Elem is highly STRUCTURED with a great curriculum. Disturbances of behavior and bully are dealt with right away. The teachers give a balance of nurture and independence. From the 1st grade teachers to the 3rd grade teachers. The music teachers are excellent and so is the art teacher!! Since the school as been under the guidance of Mrs. Powell things have change. Her no nonsense and expecting more has created a superb earning environment! They also have extra activity such as step group that perform at a college level. The administrative staff (2012-2013) were beyond helpful. I hope the superintendent and board members take heed to Matteson's culture and structure the other schools around this school (Sauk-we are watching you!!!!!) Huth your on our list. It would be great to send Mrs. Powell and her method to train other schools to be "Great Schools", use what you have, so, the public schools don't loose children leaving Matteson to private schools, therefore, less funding!! Thanks, if only Matteson went up to 6th grade, we would have no worries! love love this school!!!

I feel that this school/district admin are completely unsupportive and do not tend to students needs whatsoever. If the child does not fit into a mold, he/she falls through the cracks. I gave the district 2 years and I am pulling my child out for second grade.

My daughter informed me of the oranges...It's said that we weren't informed as parents about this matter. I called the district yesterday and informed the district that I wanted my child to transfer to another school within the district. I was told I had to discuss this matter with Matteson School principal. As a parent it is my choice to remove my child. You can talk until your blue in the face and the situation will not change. I will be calling the superintendent today. I've never seen my child dislike a school so much. She's been in school since the age of three and complains everyday about something. The other day she stated that she had to lay her head down during lunch. She lifted her head and Mrs. Powell took recess away. Once again these are six year olds. They can't talk in the hallway, lunch room, etc. I thought lunch was leisure time for kids a break, you should be able to eat and talk. Not be rushed eating. Lunch is at 10:40am that is super early by the time 1:00 comes, I know that the kids are hungry. Maybe it's because that couldn't finish their lunch to begin with. When I volunteered a 1st grader (male) said to me he didn't get enough food to eat.
