Oswego is a busy community offering a wide range of outdoor activities and events. The Oswegoland Park District provides over 40 miles of trails that run along the Fox River and through the Fox Valley, and the park district maintains numerous parks and open space around the area. Residents can fish, mountain bike, bird watch, kayak, or canoe, explore the river banks or relax in the outdoors. Downtown Oswego, which sits along the Fox River, is home to historic buildings, homes, shops, and restaurants, and the village offers activities and events for the whole family, from movies at the waterpark to wine by the river.

Oswego has a higher cost of living than some of its neighboring suburbs, and home prices in the area are slightly higher than the state and national averages. Still, the overall cost of living in Oswego is attractive compared to many eastern suburbs closer to Chicago, and Oswego offers residents plentiful open space and beautiful scenery, quality schools, and a community-oriented culture.


The Kendall Area Transit (KAT) serves the greater Kendall County community and provides bus rides to registered riders and door-to-door scheduled pickup. The nearest Metra train station is located just six miles north in Aurora, accessible via IL-31. IL-31 connects with Interstate 88, providing Oswego residents access to downtown Chicago. O’Hare International Airport is about 43 miles northeast, and Midway Airport is about 40 miles south.


The Oswego Community Unit School District 308 is the main district serving the Oswego area and neighboring communities, including Aurora, Yorkville, Joliet, Boulder Hill, Montgomery, and Plainfield. The district operates 22 schools, including one early education center, 13 elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools, and one alternative learning center. Both Oswego High School and Oswego East High School are highly ranked on Greatschools. Waubonsee Community College is also nearby, offering college credit courses, career programs, and community programs.


Oswego is not lacking when it comes to community events. With more than 40 parks and recreational spaces and access to the river, Oswego is perfect for exploring the outdoors and joining in on community activities. The suburb hosts triathlons, literary festivals, yoga classes, markets, holiday-themed events and more. The popular Keller’s Farmstand offers seasonal apple and pumpkin picking, homegrown vegetables, and fall festivities, and the Oswegoland Park District hosts the PrairieFest each summer, with live entertainment, food, carnival rides, and a parade. Oswego is also home to the Fox Bend Golf Course, which is rated as one of the top courses around the Chicago area.
